How to make a healthier sugar cookie

This is a recipe I made using white whole wheat flour for a healthier version of the classic Christmas sugar cookie. It’s hard to go to healthy with these cookies because the key ingredients really need to be close to the real thing. (At least that is how I feel). But remember everything in moderation.

So right before the winter storm hit, my little cousins and I whipped these up. I found the recipe here.


1 cup of butter ( I used a substitute that did not contain dairy)

1 cup of sugar substitute

3 beaten eggs or substitute

1tsp of vanilla

3 cups of white whole wheat flour ( you could do a different ratio like 1 cup of all-purpose flour and 2 cups of whole wheat flour)

2 tsp of cream of tartar

1 tsp of baking soda

1 tsp of nutmeg


Mix the first two ingredients. Then separately mix the eggs and vanilla. Sift the dry ingredients, then combine all. Dusting a flat service with flour roll out balls of dough with pin then cut in fun shapes! Bake at 425 for about 8-10 mins. I found the frosting recipe here.
